Why Residents And Their Families Love Independence Village of Ankeny

My dad moved into Independence Villages of Ankeny after living independently for 10 years. This move was a big adjustment for him; however, the staff has really welcomed my dad. He always comments to me that the nursing staff takes great care of him. He loves that the staff takes care of ordering and dispensing his medication. He enjoys the morning exercise classes and field trips. He eats in the dining room at a table of men and refers to them as “my guys.” His one bedroom apartment is the perfect size for him. The maintenance and cleaning staff are wonderful. My dad is so appreciative that he doesn’t have to clean, vacuum or do his laundry anymore. The staff takes care of that for him. I am there frequently visiting my dad. The other residents always go out of the way to stop and talk to us when we’re in the hallways. I will stop in at the nurses station and get a quick update on my dad. I am so appreciative to know that he is in a safe place and that he is well cared for.

They're wonderful with their clients. If you request something, they're on it, like right now. They keep up on the bloodwork and make sure the residents are seen by the doctor when they need to be. They try to assist the family any way that they can, especially through the challenges of the pandemic. They offer Individualized activities, and would sit one-on-one with the residents to do things like arts and crafts with them. There was always something for the residents to do. They've come up with some pretty unique things too, like going fishing in a pool, artwork and papier mache. Even the staff will make stuff for the residents and make it special for them. Independence Village was a godsend, and they were so good to my loved one.

We moved Mother to Independence Village -Ankeny three years ago. At that time she fit perfectly in assisted care. Recently as her memory has gotten progressively worse, a room opened up in the Memory Care Unit. The staff at Independence Village is amazing. They know our family by name and are always ready to help with everything. It gives our family great comfort knowing that Mom is treated with love and dignity in her later years of life. From the maintenance man, to the chef, to the front office workers, to the caregivers, they all work as a team and are ready to help no matter what we ask.
