For 55-year-old Brian, a Meadow Lane resident and proud Huron County native, a simple trip to the local fair became an unforgettable celebration of courage, community, and joy.
A graduate of Central Michigan University and Wayne State, Brian spent nearly two decades serving as an attorney for the State of Michigan. Today, he lives with Huntington’s Disease — but those who know him say it hasn’t slowed down his spirit. Since moving to Meadow Lane in June, Brian’s positivity and gratitude have been nothing short of contagious.
So when residents from the Bad Axe community visited the Huron County Fair, it didn’t take long for Brian’s adventurous energy to shine. Asked which ride he wanted to try, Brian surprised everyone by choosing one of the fair’s boldest attractions — the Pirate Ship.
With cheers from onlookers and support from his Meadow Lane family, Brian climbed aboard. Moments later, he was soaring high above the crowd, wind in his hair and laughter filling the air.

“I felt victorious, conquering gravity!” Brian said afterward, grinning from ear to ear. “I feel like I can do anything — I felt like a Master of the Universe!”
For everyone there — residents, employees, and fairgoers alike — the moment was something special. Many stopped to watch and cheer, moved by the residents’ obvious joy. One woman said she was nearly brought to tears watching the group ride the Ferris wheel, describing it as “pure happiness.”
The day was full of simple pleasures — classic fair food, friendly animals in the barn, and the kind of laughter that lingers long after. But behind those moments of fun is a deeper truth: a dedicated Meadow Lane team that goes above and beyond to ensure residents experience life to the fullest.
By creating opportunities like this, the team helps residents not only connect with their community, but rediscover the sense of freedom and excitement that defines a life well lived.
