What makes a community so special? Is it a rich history? Fun activities? Or caring people?
Whatever it is, Bay City has it all. This Michigan city is a one-of-a-kind place to live, and for the seniors of the community, Bayfield offers one-of-a-kind senior living. If you or someone you know is looking for assisted living in Bay City, keep reading and discover more about all the community has to offer.
Getting To Know The History
Did you know that Bay City, Michigan was once the home of the Chippewa tribe? Later, it was a hub of specialized industries, and now, the rich history of the city has made for interesting shops, historical attractions, eco-tourism, cafés and more.
Nestled near the mouth of the Saginaw River, joining Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron and the Great Lakes Waterway, Bay City made a name for itself, other than “Lower Saginaw,” which it was once called.
For more history on Bay City, visit the Historical Museum of Bay County and Butterfield Memorial Research Library. Residents at Bayfield, a StoryPoint Group senior living community, have made more than a few trips to the museum to learn more about their town.
Exploring The Bay City
Sure, seniors have wisdom to share, but that doesn’t mean their time to learn, explore and discover new experiences has passed them by. And Bay City is a great place to start!
At Bayfield senior living, residents enjoy every opportunity to get out into the city. Here are a few places in Bay City for seniors to visit.
Delta College Planetarium
At the heart of downtown Bay City, the Delta College Planetarium encourages visitors to get inspired about the wonders of space. We headed there for a fun and educational afternoon with friends. For Bayfield residents, the best part of the day was the surprise virtual rollercoaster ride through outer space.
The Farm @ Apple Acres
If you’re craving ice cream, there’s really only one place to be in Bay City, and that’s the Farm @ Apple Acres. With 92 different ice cream flavors to choose from, there’s a sweet treat to satisfy any craving.
The farm also has a small apple orchard where they sell donuts, apple cider, and caramel apples in the fall. Hand crafted gifts, reclaimed and recycled wood signs, furniture, and more are sold year-round. When Bayfield residents headed to the farm, we enjoyed a sunny day and visited with the animals.
Midland Center For The Arts
It’s a place where art, science, history, music, theater, dance, films, camps and classes all coincide — it’s the Midland Center for the Arts. This one-of-a-kind venue invites all ages to create and appreciate the arts. The venue holds internationally known art and science exhibits, professional symphony concerts, award-winning theatre, art classes and so much more.
Tummy Ache Candy Store
The Tummy Ache Candy Store is about a 13-minute drive from Bayfield, but the Tummy Ache food truck? It comes right to us!
The candy truck visited us at Bayfield, and residents grabbed some ice cream for a sweet treat on a warm day. Tummy Ache Candy Store also has slushies, candies, homemade treats, hand-shaved snow cones, and so much more to choose from.
The Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum
The Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum has become a must-see museum and is even listed as the #1 local tourist destination in the Saginaw Bay Region on Trip Advisor.
This floating museum serves as a national destination for education and preservation of America’s history, traditions and values. We’re lucky that such a well-renowned museum is so close to our community.

A Bayfield Story
We could go on and on about what makes life at Bayfield so special, but don’t just take our word for it! Here’s a message from a family member of one of our residents, sharing more about their experience at our community.
“Mom has resided at Bayfield Assisted Living for over seven years. We know that Mom is safe and well taken care of. The care she has received has been amazing, and the staff is caring and professional. They interact with the residents in a compassionate manner.
Mom looks forward to the caregivers coming in to take care of her. She enjoys talking with them and thinks of them as family. We have a good relationship with the staff, and they keep us informed of any issues that may arise. There are activities and social events that all are able to participate in.
The community is great. We looked around at several other places, but none compared to Bayfield. It feels like home to both Mom and us.”
