Life in Mentor, Ohio
Located about 20 minutes from Sandusky (the home of Cedar Point), Mentor was originally founded in 1797. What began as a cabin in a marsh, built by Charles Parker, has since become Lake County’s largest city. Offering a variety of interesting attractions, the city was recently ranked #1 in Ohio in US News & World Report’s “Best Places to Live” list.
As you or your loved one prepare to potentially join this city’s community — which has nearly 50,000 residents — consider the following attractions.
- Holden Arboretum: Roughly 15 minutes from Mentor, in nearby Kirtland, this arboretum is one of the country’s largest, featuring thousands of plants.
- James A. Garfield National Historic Site: The 20th president of the United States was born in Ohio and campaigned from the home that’s featured on this site. It also has the nation’s first-ever presidential library.
- Mentor Civic Amphitheater: Featuring a 3,000-square-foot stage, this amphitheater has hosted several concerts and theatrical performances since opening in 2017.
- Wildwood Cultural Center & Park: Built in 1908, this 34-acre estate features gardens, hiking trails, and a wildlife area. In addition, it hosts live musical and theatrical performances.
For further entertainment options, you may also drive 30 minutes to Cleveland, which is home to attractions like Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Resident-Centered Care — for You or Your Loved One
Danbury Mentor is dedicated to providing resident-centered care. Each resident is treated equally, and our services are personalized for their unique needs. Living options offered at our community include assisted living and memory care.
- Assisted Living: By choosing this option, residents receive assistance with various daily activities in the comfort of their own private apartment. For instance, they’ll enjoy three meals a day (without having to worry about cooking by themselves). They’ll have help with chores like housekeeping and laundry as well, all while participating in numerous social activities with fellow residents, too.
- Memory Care: Our staff members are fully trained to specialize in memory care, whether your loved one has Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or another type of memory impairment. Residents receive 24/7 licensed support in every aspect of life, including dining, activities, and spending time with other residents.
As you or your loved one prepare for the next chapter of life, Danbury Mentor will provide many other offerings too, including plenty of amenities and features. A chapel. An arts and crafts room. Fireplace lounges. A spa with a walk-in Hydro Tub. The options ensure each resident can live life to the fullest!
Living Life to the Fullest at Danbury — and in Mentor
There is nothing quite like building a community of people. Regardless of the chapter of life we’re in, we don’t just seek friendships. We need them!
At Danbury Mentor, we have built a thriving community, one in which residents come together and enjoy life with each other. Here are some recent examples of the ways we’ve done exactly that within — and outside of — Danbury Mentor.
Celebrating Life in Our Community
- Celebrating Labor Day: After working for so many years, our residents know how to celebrate Labor Day properly, as shown this year. They ate tasty ribs, drank rum punch, and listened to Tom Todd’s rockin’ music.
- Relishing Modern Luxuries: This August, some of our female residents were pampered with gel manicures. The manicures led many to reflect on the past, while remembering when they only had nail polish — nothing more, nothing less!
- Rock the Lot: Burgers. Classic cars. A polka band. This year’s Rock the Lot had everything that our residents love, including the opportunity to spend time with friends and family, too!
- The Golden Arches: Recently, while playing trivia, our residents were asked which fast-food chain’s slogan is “Have It Your Way”? After receiving a correct response, staff members asked them if they’d prefer to eat McDonald’s or Burger King. After voting unanimously for McDonald’s, residents enjoyed burgers and fries in the courtyard.
Celebrating Life Locally
- A Remarkable Day: In September, many residents left Danbury Mentor for an entire day, while visiting Presti’s Bakery, Lake View Cemetery, and Outback Steakhouse. What a day it was!
- Life on the Lake: Our Memory care residents were invited to join our Life Enrichment Assistant Ingrid for a fun day on Lake Erie, complete with ice cream!
