Peggy Dorman spent her high school years rallying the crowd, leading cheers, supporting the team, and waving her pom-poms with pride. Decades later, that same spirit of enthusiasm still burns brightly. Now 88 years old, Peggy is a beloved resident at Stonegate Village, where she often shares memories of her cheerleading days with friends and community employees.
When asked if she would ever want to cheer again, Peggy laughed and said, “Absolutely, but I’m too old now.” Inspired by her story and unwilling to let age stand in the way, the Stonegate Village team quickly took action. They partnered with the Sandusky High School Cheer Team and Sanilac Transportation to bring Peggy’s dream to life through the community’s Dream Big initiative.
On February 25, 2025, Peggy returned to the sidelines, suiting up with a Sandusky Cheer shirt, pom-poms in hand, ready to bring the spirit once more. She joined the Sandusky Cheer Team on the court during a varsity basketball game, stepping into the spotlight and reliving one of her fondest passions.
“It made me feel young again,” Peggy said. “I cheered all through high school. I had fun doing it. And with these girls, I felt like part of the team.”
A Cheerful Celebration of Connection and Joy
Peggy’s evening on the court wasn’t just about pom-poms and chants — it was a celebration of movement, connection, and the timeless joy that comes from pursuing passions at any age. Her spirited performance brought smiles and cheers from the crowd, as well as a wave of emotions from those who know and love her.
At Stonegate Village, Peggy’s moment under the gym lights served as a reminder that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, create new memories, and embrace life’s joyful moments. Thanks to a community that listens, encourages, and acts, Peggy’s spirit will continue to inspire others to dream big — no matter their age.
Peggy’s story is one more that was made possible by Dream Big, an initiative dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of senior residents in StoryPoint Group communities. Supported by the Dream Big Fund, past dreams include lighthearted occasions like a food fight to thrilling experiences like riding in a B-25 Mitchell Bomber and spending a day at a motor speedway.
“It’s not just about nostalgia,” said a representative from StoryPoint Group, the senior living organization that includes Stonegate Village. “These experiences remind our residents — and all of us — that dreams don’t have an age limit.”
