Due to its location, Hastings is roughly 30 to 45 minutes away from four large cities: Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Lansing. As a result, residents — including potentially you or your loved one — have plenty of entertainment opportunities nearby.
In addition to these four cities, Hastings itself has several attractions, too. A relatively small city (with roughly 7,500 residents), Hastings has been known for its charm since it was founded in 1871. As a possible resident of Woodlawn Meadows, you or your loved one will soon notice this charm as well.
- Daniel Striker House: Built in the 1800s, the Daniel Striker House has been one of Hastings’ most renowned landmarks ever since. You and your loved one are welcomed to visit this beautiful home and learn more about Hastings’ history firsthand.
- Hastings Performing Arts Center: Based at Hastings High School, the performing arts center hosts a variety of musical events throughout the year. For example, in 2026, the Grand Rapids Symphony and the Navy Band will be offering concerts.
- Historic Charlton Park: If you or your loved one treasure your time outdoors, you’ll want to visit this park over and over again. Located along Thornapple Lake, the 310-acre park provides numerous opportunities for outdoor activities, from fishing to hiking.
- Otis Farm Bird Sanctuary: Nestled on 128 acres, this sanctuary is home to an assortment of birds, including bald eagles, cranes, ospreys, warblers, and woodpeckers. It also has many natural settings to relish, such as forests, marshes, and springs.
- Pierce Cedar Creek Institute: Simply put, this institute was created with nature lovers in mind. From its forests, lakes, prairies, and streams, to its 10 miles of hiking trails, it offers endless opportunities to enjoy Mother Nature!

Here are some examples of the activities our residents have recently enjoyed.
- A Family Tradition: One of our residents, Bonnie, shared a unique family tradition with her friends at Woodlawn Meadows: creating rosettes. A recipe of her grandmother’s and mother’s, our residents absolutely loved Bonnie’s delicious rosettes!
- BINGO!: During October 2025, residents congregated to play some friendly BINGO games. Winners even received prizes!
- Celebrating Thanksgiving: One day before Thanksgiving, residents gathered to make homemade pumpkin and cream cheese frosting cookies. What a great pre-Thanksgiving treat!
- Senior Steppers: From time to time, our residents are treated to performances from Senior Steppers, a performance senior dance group. In November 2025, the group performed for our residents one last time, leading to well-deserved applause.
- Tea Time: Residents came together for a tea party. During the party, they laughed, shared stories, and relished hot, tasty beverages.
- Viva Las Vegas…or Woodlawn Meadows: As our residents showed in October 2025, you don’t have to travel to Las Vegas to experience it. Instead, they had fun in their Woodlawn Meadows community, while playing various casino games.
